Library Catalog Down Time

The Library Catalog will experience intermittent downtime during the weekend of May 16-18, 2008 for maintenance.

The library catalog will be unavailable Monday, May 19 beginning at 9:30 AM for maintenance. It is expected to be down most of the day.

5th Annual J.Y. Joyner Paraprofessional Conference

What is the J.Y. Joyner Paraprofessional Conference?
The J. Y. Joyner Paraprofessional Conference, now in its fifth year, offers the only North Carolina conference solely for library paraprofessionals. 
This year s conference will occur on May 16th with keynote speaker Dr. Larry White beginning the day.

Traveling abroad this summer?  Interested in other cultures?  Or writing a paper for an international business class?  Regardless of whether you have business or pleasure in mind, if you need to research other countries, this new resource may be for you.  Global Road Warrior Country Database is a guide for companies and individuals traveling to or doing business in foreign countries. Covering 175 countries, Global Road Warrior Country Database addresses 22 categories of interest to travelers, including business culture, communications, demographics, money and banking, points of interest, security, society and culture, tips for businesswomen, transportation, and travel essentials. Centennial Quilt

On Founders Day the Greenville Quilters Guild presented East Carolina University a commemorative quilt celebrating East Carolina s centennial. The quilt depicts landmark buildings on both east and west campus. The quilt will have a permanent home in Joyner Library   location to be announced.

Sculpture Exhibit now on Display

Joyner Library is proud to present the sculptures of Hanna Jubran, Reflection on Nature: One-Hundred Works, currently on display on the second floor of the library. Professor Jubran was graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1980 and later received a Masters of Fine Arts in sculpture in 1983. He has served as a faculty member of ECU s School of Art and Design since 1994, where he serves as a professor of art-sculpture. Jubran s works have been exhibited throughout North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Latin and South America. The exhibit kicked off with an opening ceremony on Thursday, March 27 and will run through June 27, 2008. The exhibit is viewable during normal library hours.
 

Raleigh and the Atlantic World April 10, 11 and 12

April 1st, 2008
Join us for an interdisciplinary symposium on Raleigh and the Atlantic World, running April 10 through April 12. Events kick off with an address by Mark Nicholls (St. John s College, Cambridge) titled Sir Walter Raleigh and the Elizabethan World of Thomas Harriot in OC-309 in the Science and Technology Building. Friday s events will all take place in Joyner Library, running from 8am until 7pm. The event concludes on Saturday with a panel discussion starting at 1:30pm at the Elizabethan Gardens, in Manteo, NC.

Attention Faculty and Graduate Students!

March 18th, 2008
Beginning March 31, your books can be renewed.  The new due date for graduate students will be December 3, 2008.  The new due date for faculty will be April 27,2009. Books are currently due back April 28, 2008.

New Database: Roper Center iPOLL

Roper Center iPOLL, from the Roper Center for Public Opinion Research, is a full text database of 500,000 questions from national public opinion surveys since 1935 and updated daily. iPOLL includes survey results data from academic, commercial and media survey organizations such as Gallup, Harris Interactive, Pew Research Associates, ABC, CBS, Wall Street Journal and many more. Many data sets are available for download in ASCII or SPSS format through RoperExpress.
