A.R. Ammons's Poetry and Art – A Documentary Exhibit
Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008A.R. Ammons Poetry and Art A Documentary Exhibit October 18, 2008 through June 30, 2009.
The Special Collections Department of Joyner Library announces that it will present an exhibit of documents, writings, photographs, manuscript and published literary works, audio recordings, original art, and other items by and about noted North Carolina-born poet and educator, A. R. Ammons. The exhibit will be on display in the Search Room of the Joyner Library s Special Collections Department from October 18, 2008, through June 30, 2009. This exhibit will be drawn from material given to the Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences by Reid and Susan Overcash. The Overcashes had acquired the materials from Stuart Wright, an expatriate North Carolinian and Ammons s longtime publisher and friend, who had collected it over many years. Mr. Overcash, an East Carolina University alumnus, and Mr.
Wright were childhood friends, born and raised in Roxboro, in the Piedmont region of North Carolina. The Overcashes then very generously donated the Ammons Papers to the Special Collections Department of the Joyner Library, which has curatorial responsibility for the collection.
Equally importantly, they also provided funds for the processing and maintenance of the Ammons Papers. Without their interest, concern, and support this exhibit would not have been possible. Contact information, exhibit dates, hours, and directions will be made available through the Special Collections Department webpage at
(http://www.ecu.edu/lib/spclcoll/) or by calling: (252) 328-6671.
This exhibit is open to the public.
